Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form is looking to appoint a Director of Construction to join our outstanding team of staff.

Your opportunity

We are currently looking to appoint an outstanding, experienced individual who will commit to sharing the academy's vision by leading a team who will deliver an excellent focused vocational provision in Construction courses for students for whom traditional pathways may not be appropriate, developing practical skills and knowledge related to local, national and worldwide employment needs.

The courses on offer within construction are:

  • Joinery up to level 3
  • Plumbing up to level 3
  • Bricklaying up to level 3 to ensure Y13 Assessments can continue

You will have a wealth of opportunities to develop as a leader with the Harris Federation. We can offer you a range of bespoke courses and qualifications through our Teaching School, including our Aspiring Leaders NPQH for aspiring principals.

We can help prepare you for your next Senior Leadership challenge, investing in your knowledge and expertise through regular support, coaching and a wide range of professional development and training.

What we are looking for

We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London, and helping create exceptional places of learning. As Director of Construction:

  • You will have a recognised teaching qualification appropriate to one or more of the courses on offer and an excellent overview of the others, be highly motivated and have experience of managing a team of teaching and support staff. Ideally you will have Industrial experience in one of the fields the academy offers.
  • You will be keen to develop the wider employability skills of your students along with their technical skills, Maths and English.
  • You will be comfortable teaching both practical and theoretical elements and confident using a wide range of teaching and learning methods including the use of modern technologies.

About Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form

Harris Professional Skills Sixth form is a unique new sixth form, established to provide an outstanding vocational education and preparation for skills-based work or transition to university for students in Croydon and the surrounding boroughs.

Part of the Harris Federation, which runs 44 highly successful primary and secondary academies across London, Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form caters for students who may not suit the traditional pathways at post-16. With small class sizes and strong pastoral support, we offer excellent, focused vocational options as well as the opportunity to  take or resit GCSEs that you need to progress further - whether you choose to progress into a career or higher education.

Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form is located in the former South Norwood Police Station building in Oliver Grove, alongside the Harris Federation's Aspire Academy a successful alternative provision academy.

The building, which is situated right at the heart of the local community, will provide a modern, well-equipped and welcoming environment to students. It will house a wide range of facilities to allow us to deliver our vocational curriculum - including excellent ICT resources and media facilities, as well as facilities for plumbing, bricklaying, joinery, painting and decorating and plastering. ICT will be used, whenever possible, to enhance and extend learning at our sixth form.
