DevOps Manager

Cordius are working with a global client, who is looking to build a new DevOps team at their Nottingham Offices to ensure that critical information will always be available to their customers.

Location: Nottingham

Are you a hands-on Technical Manager who loves coding, thrives when pairing with team members and excels at building strong and diverse teams? There’s a high degree of trust and responsibility for you to follow DevOps principles and practices. For this role, you’ll be required to have a mix of knowledge and skills in software engineering including, programming, data structures, algorithms, systems engineering and most importantly, people.

Expectations

As the hands-on manager you are expected to have some proficiency in the following: Java, C#, JavaScript, Python or Ruby and experience with one of the following would also be valuable; Shell Scripting, PowerShell, PERL or PHP. You’ll be needed to analyse and discover how all components of a system work together using a broad range of skills and tools including:

  • Windows or Linux Systems Configuration/Administration
  • Web Servers (Apache, IIS), networking and storage technologies
  • Cloud technologies and platforms; AWS or Azure
  • Data structures, algorithms and/or database programming

Responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for the technical leadership and management of a small engineering team (5-10 people). As the DevOps Manager you will need to push the team in the right direction by setting goals, communicating effectively, leading change and understanding/implementing strategy. You’ll also be responsible for enabling the full potential of those in your team by supporting their career development, giving feedback and coaching.

To be successful in this role you’ll need to be able to use pair-programming techniques, use software testing frameworks following TDD and BDD approaches and automating software build, deployment and server configuration management using Puppet, Chef and/or Jenkins.
