Are you a Design Coordinator, Assistant Design Manager, Architect or Design Manager looking for a new role? Do you have experience working in either private practice or for a main contractor? Do you have strong technical expertise in the construction of complex buildings of at least £10million?

We are currently recruiting for a highly successful main contractor who are looking to expand their design team. Reporting to the Principle Design Manager and working part of the design team your role will be supporting construction teams across North West construction teams. You will assess and advise on risk issues associated with design, buildability and compliance as well as providing technical and design advice and assistance.

Other responsibilities in your role of Design Manager:

  • Appraising consultant appointments including costs
  • Auditing and assessing design information before and during construction
  • Reporting on risk to Directors and project team.
  • Advising on alternative efficient and compliant design solutions
  • Liaising with construction management team
  • Advising and agree programmes for information delivery
  • Attending meetings as and when required
  • Attending construction sites to appraise work
  • Assisting in implementation of company quality procedures
  • Assist in implementation of company health and safety procedures
  • Providing technical and design advice and assistance to colleagues and group companies
  • Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with board members, key personnel / departments and external clients
  • Facilitating internal communications to ensure best use of tools available

What you need to be successful as Design Manager:

  • Degree educated or equivalent
  • Previous experience as Design Coordinator, Assistant Design Manager, Design Manager or Architect in new build in either private practice or industry
  • Excellent technical expertise in the construction of complex building types
  • Knowledge of current design, planning legislation and compliance issues
  • Outstanding IT skills including CAD
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
