Severn Trent Water are looking for our newest Design Engineer to join our team in within our Asset Creation department. This is a fantastic opportunity within this area and an exciting time to join Severn Trent Water where you will work on projects which could transform the way in which we manage our waste water network. You will have the responsibility of analysing the way in which our assets are working and play a key role in understanding the root cause and essentially creating new ways in which our assets can be improved and optimised. You will be given projects to work on some of which will be reactive and use your expertise in sewerage and hydraulic design to deliver innovative solutions. You will work closely Senior Design Engineers & Technicians and play a key role in the successful delivery of projects. The role will be very varied and will offer you the autonomy to be creative and use the latest technology in the field. Having good experience within the field would be a real asset and allow you to hit the ground running alternatively and ideally you will be qualified to degree level or working towards membership of an appropriate professional engineering body. You will have a proven record of playing a playing a key role in the successful delivery of waste water infrastructure projects or projects in similar industries. Typical projects will include the alleviation of sewer flooding, Combined Sewer Overflow improvements, sewer pumping station asset renewal / maintenance, rising mains and sewer rehabilitation. Ideally you will also have experience of using CAD and utilising hydraulic modelling software . You will be a very personable individual who is able to motivate and inspire others around them and play a supportive role. There will be sometimes challenging situations in the role, we are looking for someone who is confident, resilient and provides innovative solutions to problems. As a Design Engineer, your key skills and competencies will include:
* Undertake option evaluation/assessment for projects within the required timescales and within agreed feasibility budgets. * Engage with appropriate stakeholders in order to understand the root cause of the business problem * Identification and assessment of suitable options and development of a preferred technical solution * Communicate and quantify any residual risks associated with the preferred solution * Pre construction assessment (site visits) ahead of high level and detailed design * Support the preparation of the Business Case Reports clearly defining the project proposals for submission to STW approval bodies. * Deliver and check design specifications to document the solution for subsequent delivery * Review and validate third party designs to ensure they meet the requirements of the solution * Experience of using CAD and hydraulic modelling software (desirable) * Water sector experience (desirable) * Investigate and apply innovative approaches that will improve the way we work and drive efficiency. * Communicate with Severn Trent's customers during the development of the preferred solution.

This role will be based at our site in South STW Region, you will have the opportunity to visit other sites in the surrounding area so holding a Full UK Driving Licence would be preferable.
