We are currently going through a period of significant growth within our Capital Delivery & Commercial business and we now have a number of Senior Design Engineer opportunities to join our Infra side of the business to work within our Waste & Clean Water Design Teams who have a clear directive; to Share ideas & think innovatively. We are recruiting across two offices within the Severn Trent region at this level (Derby and Finham) The type of projects which you could be working on include; on the sewerage network Sewer Flooding, Sewage Pumping Station improvements, Network infiltration, First time Sewerage and rehabilitation and many more. On the Water distribution network you could find yourself working on Mains renewal, Pressure management, Metering, Booster Station and Service Reservoir improvements, projects to improve system resilience or accommodate growth.

Your expertise might lie outside of the Water Industry? You may come from a background in Power, Energy or another Utilities sector If so, great - we would still love to hear from you - your transferable skills will be of real value to us bringing with you fresh ideas and perspective. You will have the opportunity to work on a large variety of multi-million pound Waste/Water industry projects / programmes of work over the next 5 years - some of the best the industry has to offer - it truly is a unique time to join us. You will work closely with internal partners and your team of Design Engineers & Assistant Design Engineers and contribute to the successful delivery of our engineering projects. The role will be very varied and will offer you the autonomy to be creative and use the latest technology in the field.

Having a wide breadth of experience within an engineering design capacity at a senior level (any sector) is essential to succeed in these roles. Ideally you will be a Chartered Engineer or working towards membership of an appropriate professional engineering body. You will be a very personable individual who is able to motivate and inspire others around them and play a supportive role. There will be sometimes challenging situations, and we are looking for someone who is confident, resilient and can think outside of the box. Within Capital Delivery & Commercial our vision is simple. As a Design Engineer , your key skills and competencies will include:

  • Engaging with appropriate stakeholders in order to understand the root cause of the business problem
  • Agreeing design assessment and design completion milestones with Project Manager
  • Pre construction assessment (site visits) ahead of high level and detailed design
  • Supporting the Project Manager to define the right contractual outputs to ensure a successful delivery
  • Validating data to define the problem
  • Ensuring design standards and processes are followed
  • Preparation of conceptual designs to create innovative and efficient TOTEX solutions which resolve the business problem (liaising with appropriate internal and external experts, ensuring design standards and assurance processes are followed)
  • Identifying and assessing operational risks e.g.; H&S, environmental, commissioning

You will be expected to travel to site as part of the role and have the opportunity to visit other sites in the surrounding area so holding a Full UK Driving Licence is necessary
