Design Engineer (Autodesk Inventor)

Salary / Benefits

Salary Range - £30-£40k

The Role:

  • Design and detail structural components (a focus on steel fabrications).
  • Work with the project team and manufacturers to develop robust 'Design for Manufacture’ and 'Design for Assembly’ solutions.
  • Packaging and integration of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Perform strength and fatigue analysis using FEM tools.
  • Create design reports to support design verification activity.
  • Create detailed component drawings and specifications.
  • Create and maintain 3D assemblies
  • Create assembly drawings providing specifications for assembly and operational use.
  • Create and maintaining assembly bills of materials.
  • Participate in and run design review meetings.
  • Participate in design risk assessments.
  • Support procurement activities including component and supplier selection.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical/Structural/Marine Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in CAD design.
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor CAD and Vault PDM systems.
  • Steel detailing and drafting (weld/bolted joint specifications, cutting/notching specifications etc).
  • Able to produce high quality CAD drawings and specifications of both components and large assemblies.
  • Good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • 3 years’ experience designing steel fabricated components and systems.
  • Experience performing FEA/FEM studies
