Design Coordinator / Architectural Technician

Posted 5 April by Breakthrough Consulting Ltd

With a focus on team work, training and rewarding success I believe my client is a progressive company that few can match. There are many reasons as to why they are a stand out employer but it can be best summed up the fact they have a staff turn over rate of less than 3%. If people stay it is because they are made to feel a part of a team and are being supported in developing their careers and this company does it better than most. Examples include the fact that 17 people are currently receiving training to gain their charted membership to the CIOB. Another example is their approach to rewarding staff, with 50% of the net profits returned to staff each year. They deliver on their promises and it is a company that people enjoy working at.

As a business they are a well-established, award winning Kent based main contractor building out interesting and often unique projects. Primarily focussed design and build projects they include both new build and refurbishment projects and cover everything from luxury one off multi-million pound homes to schools to leisure facilities and include listed buildings up to £12M in value.

With responsibility for the design of a project falling ever more at the feet of the main contractor it was decided 8 years ago to establish a standalone design team to support the both the pre-construction bid team as well as the site delivery teams. This coincided with a significant invest in Building Information Modelling software (BIM) and it is a decision that has made a significant contribution to the success and expansion of the company over recent years. As a result they are now looking to recruit another Design Coordinator/ Architectural Technician to support the growth plans of this department and the company as whole.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design team in analysing tenders to then produce the most effective design for the project.

  • Learning how to use the BIM software.

  • Supporting the design team in their role of assisting the delivery team with design issues once on site.

Desired Knowledge and Experience

As a Design Coordinator the key to succedding here is your attitude, desire and a willingness to learn. There are though a few things would be an advantage:

  • Good IT skills. Knowledge of AutoCAD or other drawing packages would also be useful.
  • A construction related degree with a genuine interest in the design of buildings, particularly from a technical point of view, would be an advantage.
  • Good organisational and planning skills with the ability to hit deadlines.
  • Any project based experience and the icing on the cake would be if you have any pre-construction experience.

In return

On offer for the successful candidate is a highly competitive salary as well as other benefits including enrolment in the company profit share scheme, a pension and 26 days holiday. As your knowledge and ability improves so too will your salary and it won’t just be at the annual review. It is down to you, how quickly you learn and the contribution you make. The main reason I would encourage you to apply though is that you will be joining a company that genuinely cares about its staff and they will continue to develop your skills throughout your career. There is a genuine team approach to what they do and everybody is made to feel a part of that team.
