Deputy Director of Finance and Head of Financial Management

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Director of Finance with the development of the financial management strategy across the institution and for the leadership and development of the Finance department.

At this pivotal point in the development of the University an excellent opportunity has arisen for a new Deputy Director of Finance and Head of Financial Management. You will report into the CFO and be supported by 6 direct reports. You will assume overall responsibility for the financial management, financial controls, compliance and audits for the University, represent the finance function at Governance, Committee & Executive meetings, and have responsibility for the timely preparation of annual statutory accounts. You will also maintain overall budget management of schools and central services by ensuring that budget holders comprehend their budgets, actuals and forecasts and that budget pressures are reported and mitigated in a timely manner.

What you'll need to succeed - Candidates for this senior post must have a degree or equivalent and a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA or ACA). You will also have strong financial accounting skills, good management skills, be an excellent team player, as well as have a proven track record of meeting objectives and reporting at board level. Experience of the higher education sector and/or public sector would be an advantage but not essential.
