Salary Band: Band 5, £22,440 (Pro rata for any part time hours worked plus enhancements)

Scottish Emergency Dental Service (SEDS) is a patient focused Out of Hours Dental service for the people of Scotland. It provides dental assessment, consultation and information from 18.00/08.00 via telephone and various contact centres across Scotland.

The ideal post holder will take forward a number of key areas of responsibility, including the following areas:

• The post holder will be autonomous; he/she will clinically assess patients' needs and offer an appropriate outcome within triage framework guidelines and national outcome codes.

• The post holder will have the knowledge required to offer appropriate analgesic advice through the use of reference materials and regular pharmacy updates.

• The post holder will have the ability to problem solve which may include system down time.

• The post holder is required to give and receive sensitive information sometimes from patients who may feel vulnerable, have limited communication or be hostile or verbally aggressive.

• The post holder will be required to communicate with nervous, anxious and upset patients/callers; patients with learning or behavioural difficulties, mental health problems, or physical disability.

To be successful in this role applicants must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria within their application:

• A broad range of NHS dental knowledge and skills including relevant registrations and restrictions.

• Hold a current registration with the General Dental Council (GDC)

• Evidence of a broad range of post registration experience.

• Computer literacy skills

• Demonstrates strong communication skills

• Evidence of team working

In addition, it would be desirable (but not essential) for the post holder to be able to demonstrate the following in their application:

• Call Centre experience

• Evidence of ability to time manage

Candidates should note that this role involves working predominately in the Out of Hours (OOH) period (including evenings, 6/8 weekends, public holidays. Some in hours working may also be required. Contracts 18 hours or over will include night shifts.

Successful candidates must be able to commit to completion of training/induction period of 6 weeks, which may involve training during the in hours period.
