Our client has a vacancy for a Data Service Officer to be focused on ensuring that the business delivers against its data security and governance obligations. The post reports directly to the Head of Data Services. This is a fixed term contract role till December 2018.

The successful candidate will join a developing team that is responsible for ensuring that it delivers against its 'first line of defence’ governance obligations.

The position requires a highly motivated individual able to operate in a challenging but exciting environment. The primary focus for the role is to identify and evaluate first line of defence data management controls particularly those related to legitimate access-illegitimate use and to coordinate and structure these controls.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating first line of defence data security controls with second (Risk and Compliance) and third (Audit) line of defence measures

  • Overseeing controls for legitimate/illegitimate uses of data

  • Understanding who has access to the data and how the data is protected

  • Understanding the appropriateness of the controls in place to protect the data and helping manage mitigation plans to address any identified weaknesses

  • Helping to manage information security incidents impacting the Data services department

  • Helping to manage risks and audit recommendations impacting the Data services department

  • Supporting the management of business continuity arrangements for the Data services department

  • To understand the governing Service Definitions for the business

    The successful applicant will need:

  • Experience of implementing information security controls over data assets

  • Knowledge of ISO standards in relation to information security and business continuity

  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant data protection legislation

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Good commercial awareness and ability to influence decisions at senior management level

  • The ability to plan and prioritise tasks
