The successful candidate will report to the Senior Customer Development Manager, this is a strategic role that provides proactive Key Account Management to the Forwarder customer type. Focusing on, maximising and delivering Import & Export target volume ensuring effective communication through the sales systems and liaison with Key MSC personnel in the UK. Building strong relationships with our customers at all levels is vital, promoting our value proposition ensuring customer satisfaction, retention and loyalty. Identifying business opportunities and strongly promoting focus trades and services gaining market ID and feedback.

We believe the successful Customer Development Manager should have the following skills:

• Key Account Management
• Proven and demonstrable sales record
• Demonstrable Negotiation skills and deal closure
• Previous experience in setting and working to strict budgets
• Proactive, analytical and results driven
• Good working knowledge of the UK shipping and logistics industry
• Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
• Time Management
• A focused, proactive and self-motivated person
• A working style that is collaborative and trusting to build
• Good numeracy, literacy, and IT skills.
• Excellent Microsoft programme skills (to include Excel and PowerPoint)
• UK Driving Licence

The Key tasks for the Customer Development Manager role are:

• End to End Opportunity Management
• Plan and complete customer meetings/visits
• High Quality Sales Reports and Client Action Communication
• Set and be responsible for the budgets of specified Import & Export Clients
• Complete Client Ownership and Management of Development
• Direct Rate Negotiation and Deal Closure
• Create and Manage Market ID
• Create and Manage Customer Profiles
• Target Account ID and Management
• Maximise MSC’s TEU lift and revenue from both existing and new clients
• Retain, up-sell and cross sell existing business, develop new business and push for MSC as core carrier where possible
• Analyse the market including competition activities, customer actions and commodity flows
• Co-ordinate market feedback and trade strategy communication as a liaison between the sales teams and trade
• Build and Maintain relationships internally at MSC
• Communicator and sound negotiator at all levels able to track and "hunt" potential new business opportunities within the market sectors
• Extensive driving requiring quality preplanning to ensure best use of time for visits and travel
