We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated credit controller to oversee the cash management and debt collection of the largest client, ensuring best service is provided to all parties. The ideal candidate will need to be confident, tenacious and have a proven track record for stakeholder and client satisfaction.

Client Details

The client is a large nationwide business who have a very modern office based out of Oxford. They have very recently won a new contract in the local area and are looking to bring in 3 new people into the finance team to cover the new work.


The new Credit Controller will work as part of a growing fast-paced and busy team to ensure the efficient and accurate accounting of funds. The role is based in our Oxford office with travel to other offices on occasion as required.

The main objectives of the role can be summarised as follows:

  •  To collect all sums properly due from the clients in an efficient and timely manner in according with RICS guidelines to include recovery action where appropriate to ensure income in maximised
  •  Collection of outstanding invoices due to the client in a timely manner
  •  Work with the clients in house finance department as necessary
  •  Deal with any account queries from the debtor or client in a timely manner
  •  Ensure monies collected are transferred to the client in line with the agreed timescales
  •  Verify, calculate and raise any late payment interest charges that the client may request
  •  Build and maintain excellent relationships with all parties you work with, and ensure best service is provided to the client
  •  Monthly performance reporting to monitor overall debt, cash collection and debtor days

Day to day the role will include the following:

  •  Dealing with internal queries about payments, ensuring invoices are paid on time and negotiating re-payment plans
  •  Develop the credit control system to ensure it is fit for purpose and robust
  •  Ensure that debts are paid in a timely manner
  •  Meet cash & debtor day targets set by the client
  •  Chase overdue invoices by telephone, email & letter within agreed timescales
  •  Maintain accurate records of all chasing activity
  •  Regularly making contact with suppliers to ensure all relevant debts are managed as necessary
  •  Identify changes in payment patterns and propose action to avert indebtedness
  •  Handle disputed invoices and negotiate to bring payment within the agreed terms
  •  Respond promptly and completely to both client and internal enquiries
  •  Other duties as delegated from time to time by any manager or any other person designated in their absence .

As with any role within the client accounting function within any business, you will be required to undertake whatever is necessary to provide an accounting service to your clients including:

  •  Working closely with other offices in a professional and friendly manner
  •  Carrying out all administrative and ad hoc duties in connection with the role
  •  Ensuring systems are updated on a timely and accurate basis to enable other departments within the organisation to manage effectively
  •  Having knowledge of VAT in respect of general accounting and in respect of land and property
  •  Having a good overall understanding of leases and general management of your portfolio of clients
  •  Developing and maintaining knowledge of any legislation particular to your portfolio of clients
  •  Liaising with third parties (e.g. accountants) and clients in providing information and reports as required
  •  Supporting other members of the accounting team and providing cover in periods of absence of other team members

  • Sound interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate finance issues to non-accounting people

  • A professional manner with the ability to provide excellent service
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Institute of Credit Management qualified is advantageous

Job Offer

On offer for the successful Credit Controller is a salary of circa £25,000 depending on experience alongside an attractive benefits package.
