JHR are currently working with a fantastic Gas and Energy organisation based just on the outskirts of central Leeds who are recruiting for an organised credit control assistant to join them at a very exciting stage of their company growth.

Their credit control department is accountable for the credit control processes for accounts receivable, including the consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, with the goal of optimising bad debt losses. You will need to be a highly organised individual, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and you must have a resilient approach when dealing with difficult customers who are in arrears. There are also elements of accounts payable within the remits of the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Timely and effective collection of debts

  • Ability to effectively chase debtors with varying levels of urgency

  • Process building and on-going refinement of processes

  • Negotiating payment plans with customers

  • Maintaining regular contact with clients who are classified as high risk

  • Resolving and assisting with queries both internally and externally around outstanding invoices

  • Checking customer credit ratings

  • Assist relations with collection, legal and disconnection agencies

  • Assisting with aspects of accounts payable to minimise late payment of valid invoices

  • Liaising with our suppliers to correct erroneous invoices

  • Liaising with our suppliers to request copy invoices

  • Setting up Direct Debits and making payments to suppliers

Experience Required:

  • Prior experience with collection of debt

  • Knowledge of credit related regulations is desirable

  • Have experience with customer negotiations to retrieve payment

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels

  • PC literate and competence of Word, Excel and Outlook are required

  • High standard of numeracy, accuracy with attention to detail

  • A team player with a flexible approach and a willingness to learn

  • A self-starter who is pro-active and can set and achieve goals

  • Good standard of education

  • Strong organisational & time management skills

  • Ability to recognise potential risks to the firm that should be escalated
