Cowdray Park Polo Club is recognised worldwide as the Home of British Polo. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the wider 16,500 acre Cowdray Estate, the game of polo has been played at Cowdray for over a century - the first competitive tournaments being recorded in 1910.
Over 450 polo matches are played at Cowdray during the season, the highlight being the internationally renowned British Open (Gold Cup), the finals day being one of the UK’s premier sporting events.
Following the recent departure of the previous incumbent, we now have an exciting and unique opportunity for the role of Polo Club General Manager.
This is a hands-on role in a customer focussed environment working with high profile international customers and sponsors. You will be a confident ambassador for the club, have a highly visible presence and your enthusiasm and dynamism will be contagious, especially in driving social initiatives in addition to the grass roots polo agenda.
Experience of polo is not a pre-requisite, but you will be naturally entrepreneurial, balanced with a proven ability of leading and motivating a team to implement systems and procedures.
This role requires a balance of strategic thinking/forward planning with day-to-day operational management, and your natural outgoing personality will engage and drive an excellent customer, staff, player and member experience. Operational management includes the need to ensure that the business is meeting financial, compliance and governance objectives.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Chairman but will work closely with the Chief Executive of the Cowdray Estate, and will have experience of communicating at all levels, naturally diplomatic with the ability of managing competing priorities.
The Polo Club is managed by a small focussed team and therefore a close working relationship will be required with all staff. The key Heads of Department are the Polo Manager, Operations Manager and Head Groundsman.
This is an interesting and challenging role suited to an ambitious and dynamic individual who is keen to play a key role in the ongoing evolvement of the Club. For further information, or to apply, please click the apply button to send your CV and covering letter.
