The schools are seeking individuals who are passionate and driven and possess a presence within the classroom. You will ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible whilst in the regular teachers’ absence and are required to deliver pre-planned lessons.
All cover supervisors will have the support of the other teachers in the respective faculty as well as help and guidance from the schools support staff. You will be supporting pupils in and out of the classroom, as well as the main priority of supervising and safeguarding the whole class in terms of behaviour management.
Flexibility is key in this role and you must be prepared to cover any subject area and any year group with confidence. Meaning you could be covering Art in the morning and History in the afternoon.
No two days are the same and you can be required to work full days or for specific periods throughout the school day. More often than not, once attending a school and making a good impression, schools regularly ask for the same candidate back in order to keep continuity and allow you and the students to build on a relationship. This can also lead to long term support roles within the school.
Schools will also cater to your specialist subject to allow you to gain relevant experience in your specialist subject, allowing you to speak to experienced teachers in the department.
The ideal cover supervisor would obtain the below:
Experience of working with students 11 years old +
Ideally have a specialist subject i.e ICT, Art, Maths, English, Science, Geography etc.
Have presence within the classroom
Able to build strong working relationships with students and staff
Desirable - Degree level (or equivalent) [not essential]
