About the role

The Content Editor role predominantly involves editing the department’s core content outputs to ensure that they adhere to the highest standards of spelling, punctuation and grammar, such that the content addresses the target audience’s need for focused and accurate information. The role also involves the creation and allocation of tasks and controlling workflow via regular system setup and administration activities. The Content Editor reports to the Leader, MMI Operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Editing regular country reports (and other departmental content for print/digital output) so that the highest standards of consistency and quality are met. Central focus is on:

    • Correctness of spelling, punctuation and grammar

    • Enforcement of house style rules

    • Ensuring timely throughput to meet output targets

  • Enhancing and developing writing skills of internal and external economists, and the editing skills of freelance editors through feedback to ensure that standards are maintained.

  • Managing the progress of written and edited content against an agreed schedule by creating and maintaining tracking mechanisms; proactively identifying risks and issues to ensure on-time publication of reports.

  • Carrying out the monthly setup of our content management system (CMS) including the creation and allocation of tasks for economists and editors, and the population of shared content units.

  • Acts as the first point of contact for Freelance Editors regarding queries on content management and allocations of work within the CMS.

  • Creating CMS product output in the necessary formats ready for distribution to customers and internal platforms.

  • User administration for CMS dealing with user IDs, passwords, roles, permissions etc., and additional departmental administrative tasks as required.

  • Other departmental admin tasks as required.

What we’re looking for

  • A degree-level qualification in English or a politics-/economics-related discipline is desirable.

  • Experience of close-editing content in a professional environment is essential and any experience of editing country risk or related material would be very beneficial.

  • Demonstrable love of language and working with words with an exceptional focus and attention to detail.

  • Experience of working inside a tightly scheduled production environment.

  • Proven organisational and communication skills.

  • Capable of working independently on multiple assignments to produce results with the highest level of quality standards.

  • Experience of system administration and specifically content management systems would be useful.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.

  • Good level of Word and Excel skills.
