NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative Consultant colleague to join the Department of Ageing & Health and Stroke within NHS Forth Valley. These posts will enhance our service and allow further development of the stroke and frailty models. This is an exciting time to work in Forth Valley with the opportunity to develop the service further. This post is open to practitioners with an interest and experience in Stroke medicine. While this job description portrays a role for a consultant in geriatric medicine, applications will also be considered for those with an interest in stroke with appropriate experience from the specialties of General (Internal) Medicine or Neurology. The illustrative job plan and on-call would be adapted depending on the parent specialty and other service needs.

NHS Forth Valley provides acute services for a population of approximately 310,000 people in Central Scotland. Acute services, emergency and complex care, and planned services are provided for at Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH).

The Ageing & Health senior staff will comprise of thirteen Consultants (including these posts) and four Nurse Practitioners. The current frequency of the Consultant on-call rota is 1:12 (Monday to Thursday) and 1:6 weekends.

The successful candidates will play an important role in the continuing development and redesign of the department of Ageing & Health and Stroke. The posts will contribute to the acute Ageing and Health receiving rota, which will be based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and currently takes most acute medical patients aged 75 and above. However this is currently under review with plans to move to a Frailty model for receiving.

Applicants will be expected to have a wide range of experience in geriatric medicine and general (internal) medicine and possess the MRCP (UK) or equivalent. All subspecialty interests including stroke are welcome.
