A review of the medial paediatric service in NHS Western Isles has recently been completed, which has resulted in the creation of 2 new permanent 1.1 WTE posts to replace the previous single handed paediatric post. Working in the largest and what are considered to be the most attractive Scottish Islands offers a unique opportunity to combine modern and progressive clinical practice with a life style that is difficult to match. The posts offer a unique opportunity to develop skills and knowledge as a general paediatrician, whilst containing additional professional leave to pursue sub speciality interests, other relevant clinical activities, research or other professional development.
NHS Western Isles has an innovative approach to the provision of Out of Hours cover which is being developed into an urgent and emergency care multi-disciplinary team including GPs, Speciality Doctors, Paramedics, Junior Doctors, Consultants and Nurse Practitioners. The GPs and Speciality Doctors undertake the Children on Call duties overnight and at weekends and the consultant paediatrician will not be expected to participate in overnight or weekend calls. Training will be supported and provided as relevant to the post. The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme. This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
