Consultant Orthodontist

This post is based at University Hospital Crosshouse Kilmarnock and is a replacement consultant post arising due to retirement. The successful candidate will be part of a District General Hospital team of three Consultant Orthodontists four Consultants in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery one part-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and seven ENT Surgeons who make up the Head and Neck Directorate.

The department provides treatment on an area basis for a population of approximately 375000. Ayrshire is situated in south west Scotland with beautiful scenery excellent golf courses and opportunities for sailing and other recreational activities with good links to Glasgow which only 40 minutes to the north.

The Orthodontic Unit delivers treatment for complex cases and those requiring multidisciplinary care. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out a wide range of orthodontic treatment appropriate to the work of the department. Specialist interests or skills will be welcomed and encouraged.

The Department has expertise in orthognathic surgery surgical and orthodontic management of impacted teeth (managed on regular joint operating lists) cleft lip and palate non-surgical management of TMD hypodontia and sleep apnoea. There is excellent support from the on-site oro-facial laboratory chairside nursing and two orthodontic therapists.

The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and up to 10 programmed activity sessions are offered on an 8:2 DCC:SPA basis. Opportunities may exist for extra programmed activities subject to service requirements. Applications from individuals who may wish to work fewer programmed activities are welcomed.

Appropriately experienced applicants must have full GDC Registration and be on the GDC Specialist List in Orthodontics having undergone higher specialist training or able to demonstrate equivalent training and experience.
