REF. 317-CON-20-222

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.

This is a new post which has been created to cater to the expansion and growth of our service:

We are looking for a consultant to join the team to provide specialist input, advice and mentoring. The successful applicants will have sub-specialty experience in CORNEA, and will be enthusiastic about working with and developing a multi-disciplinary team.

The Cornea and External Eye Disease Service is provided by Professor F. C. Figueiredo, Miss Z. K. Johnson and Miss Sayali Pradhan. The full range of medical and surgical treatments is offered, including PKP, DSAEK, DALK, INTACS, pterygium, amniotic membrane transplantation, corneal neurotisation and collagen cross-linking. There is a dedicated dry eye assessment clinic, with very close links with rheumatology and oral medicine. Diagnostic equipment includes specular and confocal microscopy and anterior segment OCT and UBM, as well as Pentacam topography and Orbscan machines. In addition Prof Figueiredo is involved in research on ex vivo limbal and oral mucosa stem cell grafts, including HOLOCLAR for reconstruction of the ocular surface; in addition to other important areas of research such as dry eye, keratoconus, and chemical eye injury among others.

International candidates with sufficient equivalent experience in Cornea may be considered for initial appointment as Locum Consultants until they attain GMC and College requirements for a substantive post, if a suitable local candidate is not available.

In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.
