Applications are welcome for the above Permanent Fixed Term 40 hours per week post based in Waverley Gate Edinburgh.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our public health directorate at a time when we are developing our new public health strategy and reviewing our priorities for improving population health and reducing inequalities.

Post 1: You will lead development and implementation of NHS Lothian screening programmes as the Board coordinator and contribute to local regional and national public health priorities.

Post 2: You will play a major role in non-cancer screening programmes and contribute to local and regional and national public health priorities. You will also provide public health leadership to a community planning partnership and integrated joint board and a Lothian/regional role in addressing the determinants of health.

Both posts will play an active role in health protection and developing further expertise in quality improvement leadership and management.

Core to both roles is that you will build public health capacity within and beyond the NHS through your expert contribution to work with partners teaching and training research and development as part of a department that provides a comprehensive public health approach to health improvement and health inequalities health protection health services and health intelligence. You will develop and interpret national regional and local policies and through partnership working across a range of disciplines in the public third and independent sectors will lead and direct the development of inter-agency health strategies plans and programmes that deliver the key local national and international public health targets for improving population health and reducing health inequalities. You will also contribute key public health competencies to health service plans policies and strategies.

Medical applicants should be on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Public Health Medicine or if in a specialist training programme be within 6 months of obtaining this at time of interview. Applicants from a background other than medicine should be on the UKPHR or if in a specialist training programme be within 6 months of obtaining this at time of interview.
