PSYCHIATRY OF OLD AGE

Full time substantive post
10 Programmed Activities

We seek an enthusiastic and committed individual to work within the Perth and Kinross Psychiatry of Old Age Service. Our aim is to deliver a high-quality service in an environment where staff are valued and well supported. Health and Social Care Integration has created much opportunity for innovative ways of working and this post would facilitate improvement and change. This is a new post which represents an increase in the number of consultant sessions in the Perth and Kinross Psychiatry of Old Age Service.

Perth and Kinross is an area of approximately 2000 square miles in central Scotland with Perth as the main centre and several market towns approximately 20 to 30 miles away at Kinross, Auchterarder, Crieff, Aberfeldy, Pitlochry and Blairgowrie. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and its sporting facilities. The elderly population is growing steadily. There is a mixture of all levels of socio-economic class and deprivation.

The post would be based at Murray Royal Hospital, Perth and be comprised of both community and in-patient commitments. Community work would be half of the Perth City Older Adults' CMHT with in-patient commitments being the functional or dementia assessment units depending on the interests of the successful candidate. If a prospective candidate would prefer a predominantly community or in-patient based post then this could be accommodated. The current consultant group are interested in a range of clinical work and are happy to offer some flexibility in the job plan of their new colleague. The DCC: SPA split would be 8:2.

Informal enquiries are welcomed as are applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time. Candidates are encouraged to telephone and visit the department. Enquiries are welcomed by Dr. Mhairi Hepburn (secretary, e-mail ), Dr. Susan Angus (secretary, e-mail ) and Dr. Cesar Rodriguez, Associate Medical Director for Older People (secretary, e-mail ).

Applicants will be expected to register for Continuing Professional Development Programme with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR (CP) at the time of interview for the post.
