You will be based at St John's Hospital Livingston which has special status as a teaching hospital for the University of Edinburgh Medical School. It is conveniently located 15 miles from Edinburgh and 30 miles from Glasgow with excellent connections to the central Scotland road network.
This post will offer an exciting opportunity to participate in the development of a liaison team (with three consultants) that provides both general as well as specialist regional liaison services for patients across the age range.
St John's Hospital hosts an Accident and Emergency department general and specialist medical services specialist surgical units obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics. It is one of the very few teaching hospitals in the UK that also host a mature mental health service. General adult psychiatry outpatient and inpatient services (including an Intensive Psychiatric Care Unit) sit alongside psychiatry for the elderly regional Perinatal Mental Health Services the Regional Eating Disorders Unit and finally a national service of psychiatry for the deaf. In practice this offers patients better integrated healthcare than elsewhere.
We have excellent links with the University of Edinburgh and the Lothian Quality Academy so may able to offer professional development opportunities as part of this new post.
