Consultant in Acute Medicine

Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine

We are looking for two Consultants in Acute Medicine to join our amazing team here in the Acute Adult Care Division of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. We feel we have a really unique and compelling offer for the right candidate, to join an already high-performing team with plans to make things even better for the people of Bolton.

So what makes us such a great place to work? We are first and foremost a provider of very high quality care, rated ‘Good’ in out last two CQC inspections; our last CQC inspection in 2019 also listed our leadership as ‘Outstanding’ and, as a senior medical professional, you will be an active member of that outstanding leadership team. We are in a strong financial position and our staff satisfaction reports also tell us that they enjoy working here.

We like every other NHS Trust have faced the challenges of a global pandemic and our very proud of the way our teams and services have risen to that challenge. The Acute Adult Care Division was at the forefront of the pandemic response in Bolton but that hasn’t stopped us from thinking about what we could do to make things even better for our patients and our staff, and one such initiative will directly involve you as we have developed, and invested in, a very exciting and ground-breaking deescalation plan for our Emergency Department.

You will be joining a stable and very experienced team of 6 consultants plus 3 other Consultants who work additional sessions. In addition we have a Consultant Nurse who provides supervision and training for our Advanced Nurse Practitioners in the Acute Medicine Unit, 3 ANPs and 1 ANP trainee currently. There are 3 Specialist Registrars in Acute Medicine, 2-3 CMTs in ACCS, and 4 foundation programme doctors. We also have GPST1 trainees that rotate between AMU and our IMC facilities. Additionally, a Senior Clinical Pharmacist supports prescribing and discharge prescriptions.

We are looking for highly motivated colleagues with excellent communication and team working skills who want to deliver the best acute medical care for our local population. You must have comprehensive experience as a general physician with a broad background in Acute Medicine and hold MRCP (or equivalent higher professional qualification) and you must be fully registered with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register for Acute or General Medicine (or within six months of obtaining your CCT). This post seeks to combine your commitment to emergency care as an Acute Physician, recognising that you might also wish to retain an interest in a specialist field allied to the care of the critically ill medical patient.

We can provide you with significant development and simulation opportunities; we have links to AQUA (Advancing Quality Alliance) if leadership interests you. Educational Supervision provision and opportunities will be given to cement Clinical Supervisor status but actively look to train up to ES level given how many Specialist Registrars we have. We are happy to consider flexible working requests to suit you, such as part time or annualised hours for example. You will be required to work shifts, but on a rota that reflects and supports a work life balance.

Please take the time to have a look at the candidate pack that accompanies this advert as it is designed to give you a fuller understanding of the Trust, the role, and our exciting plans for the future.

So, if you are interested in working in a friendly, supportive environment, where you will be encouraged to develop your skills and interests then please contact us to find out more………
