Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

An opportunity has arisen for a full time Substantive CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist working in the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (UHB) CAMHS Managed Clinical Network.

This is an exciting time for CAMHS within Wales as the service is implementing a number of innovative solutions to adapt to the current changes. In the last few years, following the injection of new Welsh Government funding we developed specific services within CAMHS, including Crisis services, First Episode Psychosis services, Psychological therapies, Neurodevelopmental services and Primary CAMHS.

The Consultant post is based in the Cwm Taf area. There is currently a well resourced Specialist CAMHS multi-disciplinary team (MDTs) based in this part of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg CAMHS that using the Choice and Partnership Approach CAPA system to operate the service.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist you will be supported to use your skills and expertise to the full, working as an integral part of a MDT, including nursing staff, psychology and therapists in various specific therapeutic modalities. The MDT provides an outpatient specialist CAMH service to children and adolescents up to their eighteenth birthday in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders. The primary role will be to provide direct clinical input to young people and families, especially those whose mental health needs are particularly complex, and to support the other members of the MDT in relation to clinical management of complex cases.

On call: Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Rota across the Cwm Taf CAMHS Network 1: 18.

Job Planning/review process: Annually as recommended by GMC and joint medical colleges. The post is professionally accountable to the Health Board Medical Director.

Total of 10 Programmed Activities: Specialist CAMHS community team

At time of interview, the candidate must be on the Specialist Register; or be within 6 months of the anticipated CCT / CESR date, if progress has been satisfactory and it is anticipated that the outcome of the final ARCP will recommend that training will be completed by the time, the recommended CCT / CESR date is reached; or have a primary medical qualification and recognised specialist qualification from an EEA country or Switzerland which will allow direct entry onto the Specialist Register.
