As a Graduate Academic Mentor, you will be working throughout the school in your subject specialism, with a particular focus on GCSE support. You could be working with higher ability students to give them the challenge and push they need, or you could be working with lower ability students who need positivity and encouragement to feel more confident to give things ago and develop personally. These sessions may be organised by yourself or the class teacher, and could be on a 1:1 or group basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop you teaching skills prior to a PGCE or moving onto the school's very own Training Programme!
You will need to have high expectations of your own ability and others, in order to be a positive role model to all children throughout the school. You will need to be trustworthy and positive to ensure all students feel that they are in an environment where they can achieve the best they can. In addition, you will need to be able to develop relationships with staff members, to continue the inclusive and friendly atmosphere they have at school.
You will need to have a minimum of a 2:1 in your subject and demonstrate your passion for education. Strong A-Levels are considered for each subject specialism if you demonstrate a clear drive to work in education and support to a high standard up to GCSE.
The school is highly experienced in training graduates on their foundation work experience year, equipping them with the necessary skills and qualities to be a successful teacher in the future. The school is located in the Birmingham area within easy distance of train and bus transport links.
