Hays Specialist Recruitment is now shortlisting applications to present, for consideration for interview, to The Pensions Regulator, which is situated in Brighton, East Sussex, as they seek to recruit a Corporate Governance and Compliance Team Manager to manage the team in the day to day delivery of effective corporate governance and compliance services and activities, both internally and externally and to plan manage and deliver effective complaints processes in TPR, through policy development and casework.


You will:

- Directly line manage and provide operational direction to a team of technical experts whose primary remit is to ensure TPR operates in line the UK Corporate Governance Code
- Oversee the provision of accurate and current information about the efficiency and effectiveness of TPR policies and operation and the status of its compliance within the statutory obligations that it operates
- Achieve operational effectiveness by maximising the throughput and efficiency of the team, with special reference to technical excellence, training, people management and reviews
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an open culture which encourages employee participation, teamwork and communications
- Provide adequate resources, systems and controls to ensure corporate governance and compliance activities are managed efficiently and effectively during business as usual periods and peak times
- Manage appropriate work allocation to suitably skilled individuals across the team
- Identify and arrange training and development where needed
- Communicate timely and relevant information, including monthly management reports, to the team and directorate management teams
- Manage key operational relationships within TPR and externally
- Assist with the development of budget forecast in line with TPR's financial envelope
- Responsible for the day to day delivery of effective corporate governance and compliance activities including
-Manage complaints policies and responses to ensure effective complaints handling by the Regulator
-Disseminate learning from Complaints and Freedom of Information Requests and Data Protection subject access requests to relevant parties
- Manage effective delivery of Freedom of Information and Data Protection casework
- Achievement of set service levels and statutory deadlines
- Setting governance standards and best practice
- Corrective action where issues are identified with the assurance framework
- Create and maintain support documentation and procedures, and ensure they are adhered to.
- Input to the development and modification of operational processes and providing technical expertise to assess business impact
- Adherence to both internal and external audit compliance

Essential and Desirable criteria

- Experience of managing a team
- Resource planning experience, often with short timescales for deadline driven case work, projects and business as usual support
- Experience of using a performance management process
- Budget management and cost impact analysis experience
- Knowledge and techniques associated with planning and monitoring resources, allocation of deadline driven case work, monitoring progress with projects and work streams.
- Experience of internal and external audits
- Complaints handling techniques and resolution
- Regulation principles and best practice
- Data Protection Act/Freedom of Information handling principles
- Governance and compliance approaches and processes
- Stakeholder management best practice and techniques
