Headed by the Group General Counsel / Company Secretary, the small central Legal function is part of the European Shared Service Centre and provides expert advice and guidance on all legal matters to Sharp Electronics Europe’s 25 plus Entities across 17 countries in Europe.
About the Role:
The Commercial Solicitor will provide expert advice, guidance, assistance and support to Sharp Electronics Europe’s management teams on legal, procedural and regulatory matters across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
It’s a broad and very varied role encompassing the following areas of law:
Mergers and acquisitions
Competition law & competitive tendering
The span and scope of the role - multiple business units and countries, plus the breadth of commercial issues and scenarios - means that it is a busy and pressurised job, requiring expert organisation and the ability to juggle multiple requests and conflicting priorities.
You’ll be involved in:
Providing general commercial legal advice across all levels of the Group’s business in Europe
Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements relating to the activities of the Group
Monitoring new laws relevant to the business and communicating these / educating the business
Liaising with external Legal Providers and collaborating on areas requiring local or specialist advice
The role calls for a highly motivated Commercial Solicitor - you’ll be keen to immerse yourself in a broad range of commercial legal activity. Although respected as a Professional and an Expert, you will be most effective and value-adding when partnering with business stakeholders to find compliant, practical and risk-based solutions.
You might currently be in a similar in-house role and looking for more breadth and variety, or you could be keen to move from a Legal Practice to an in-house post, wanting to partner more closely with the business.
Candidates need to be:
A Qualified Solicitor - ideally with 6-8 years’ PQE
Familiar with the relevant statutory, regulatory and common law applicable to Sharp’s businesses
Experienced in contract drafting, negotiations and contractual disputes
Strong at relationship-building skills; with key internal stakeholders and external legal advisers
Able to juggle a busy workload, multiple requests and a mixture of projects and routine work
You must be eligible to work in Europe to apply for this position and qualified in UK Law
