COMMERCIAL MANAGER - RAIL

PERIVALE

SALARY CIRCA £100K, DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE PLUS AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE RELATED BONUS AND PACKAGE

Our client is an established company specialising in Groundworks, Civils, RC Frames, Architectural Concrete Frames and Basements, who also operate an Aviation and Rail Division working on Major Airports and Railway Projects. They are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to join their expanding Rail division and take responsibility for the day to day running and development of the division.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management and delivery of commercial management and quantity surveying services to both internal and external clients across a variety of rail infrastructure schemes.
  • Provision of support and assistance to others in the Rail team on a variety of cross sector schemes and commissions
  • To prepare monthly financial reporting of schemes fees
  • To manage contract, change control and financial risk

SKILLS:

  • Proven ability and track record in the majority of the following:
  • Quantity surveying and preparation of bills of quantities, schedules of rates, or other methods of work evaluation
  • NEC 3 Contract Administration
  • Management of the Project Cost Report including VOWD and Forecast at Completion
  • Change management
  • Re-measurement and agreement of current workscope
  • Subcontractor and supplier management and payment
  • Identification, preparation and evaluation of claims including assessment of programme impact and evaluation
  • Drafting of contractual correspondence
  • Cashflow forecasts and updates
  • Accrual provisions
  • Chairing regular commercial meetings with key delivery contractors
  • Active participation at client and WSP project performance reviews
  • Active participation in regular review of project risks and opportunities to minimise outturn cost through Value Engineering and maximise WSP opportunities for improved returns.
  • Earned Value analysis i.e. planned vs. achieved vs. expended
  • Productivity/efficiency analysis/calculation (dependent on Contract style)
  • Proven capability of working in a collaborative working environment with a strong teamwork ethos

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE (ESSENTIALS):

  • Post Graduate relevant experience
  • HND/Degree qualified and/or working towards Membership of a relevant professional body (ICES/RICS/ACostE/CIOB)
  • Experienced in construction and maintenance of major rail projects in the UK essential
  • Experienced in the use of standard forms of Contract, in particular NEC
  • Commercial awareness
  • Multi Discipline Capability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Additional Experience in one or more of the following sectors is beneficial
    • Highways
    • Civils, Bridge & Ground Engineering
    • Intelligent Transport Systems
  • Proactive approach to tasks
  • Flexible and committed to completing the tasks in hand
  • Organised with effective time management capability
  • Flexible and prepared to work away from home office, either visiting or on short-term assignment to other offices or sites
