In-House Commercial Lawyer / Solicitor / Legal Executive
Six-month FT Contract
You might already be in house or you could be in private practice with a reputable firm and considering your first move into industry. Our ideal candidate is a solicitor or barrister (probably 2-5 years PQE), but we will also consider an experienced legal executive or paralegal with strong commercial contracts experience.
This opportunity will appeal to capable and ambitious lawyers who are looking for a varied and challenging position with autonomy and a high degree of responsibility. Our client is a well-known UK energy business based in south-west England.
The position is highly commercial with a broad-based workload encompassing a wide variety of supply contracts - many with an international component. You can also expect to be involved in a broad range of other transactions. You will be an integral part of the commercial team; seeing transactions through from start to finish and beyond while adding real value to the business. The work is at times fast-paced and requires a high degree of commerciality - this is not a job for lawyers who prefer to work from the safety of an ivory tower! That said, you will be joining an existing small team of in-house lawyers so will have plenty of support from legal colleagues with whom you will work closely.
You will need to be able to convince us of your commercial pragmatism as well as your technical excellence. Your core legal skills are likely to be commercial, but we will be looking for the demonstrable ability to understand the bigger picture and identify solutions to complex issues, combined with decisiveness and a clear understanding of legal risk management. You will be expected quickly to engage with decision makers across and outside the business and build and manage those relationships. Capable of managing a large workload and taking decisions which deliver the right commercial outcome every time, you will also have the communication skills and personality to influence and win support from the front line to the boardroom.
You probably gained these skills in a strong regional or national law firm and experience of working in house (perhaps on secondment), while not essential, will be an advantage. If you have had experience of construction contracts, that too will help your cause.
A good package is on offer, together with clearly defined opportunities to progress your career within this sector-leading business. If this sounds appealing then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
