Job Title: Commercial Development Manager
Job Type: 2-Year Contract
Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire with regular travel (Home based also considered)
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000, DOE

We are currently recruiting for the official tourism marketing organisation for the county. They are looking to develop a new touring route - which will join up many of England's iconic destinations and attractions along a corridor west of London through to Bristol.

This project is focused on creating a world class tourism experience, winning new business and market share for Britain, growing the visitor economy and transforming the visitor experience along and around the route.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • To devise, manage and deliver all commercial and income generating activities, including recruitment, retention, new business development, bookings, and selling marketing opportunities.
  • Develop and rollout a strategy and action plan that provides opportunities for a wide range of destinations, businesses and other partners.
  • Formulate and manage key account relationships in order to maximise benefit with strategic and Club Partners.
  • Work in partnership with Destination Partners to ensure activity delivers commercial income and measurable benefit to the project, industry and Destinations.
  • Build strong commercial relationships with a wide range of tourism organisations from SMEs to high-profile national industry businesses.
  • Identify new prospects and opportunities to achieve project objectives.
  • Work to stringent growth targets.
  • To produce regular commercial updates and report back to project boards.
  • Provide feedback on market needs and generate new services/product ideas.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level
  • Proven track record of success in a senior business development or commercial role.
  • Passion for business development and driving commercial development projects
  • Experience of working in a complex stakeholder environment
  • Experience of leading high level negotiations and building good relationships with people at all levels across a range of organisations.
  • Ability to hit the ground running
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills and good attention to detail.
  • Experienced team leader / project manager
  • Target driven and results oriented
  • Track record of identifying and developing new and innovative commercial opportunities, including pitching for new business, with proven results
  • A flexible and proactive problem solver able to manage time effectively and juggle competing demands.
  • Creative and proactive, thriving on challenges
  • Ability to travel regularly
  • Successful background in collaborative and partnership working.
  • Experience of compiling and following strict budgets
  • A self-motivated team player

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of tourism products and services in the area.
  • Experience of working in partnership/membership sales
  • Experience in the tourism and hospitality sector.
  • A track record of success in delivering complex partnership projects.
  • Experience of working with international markets
  • Experienced team leader / project manager

Other

The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in working arrangements and will be expected to attend industry events outside normal office hours.

The post may require occasional weekend/evening work, which is reflected in the salary.
