Commercial Contracts Lawyer

Central London
3 – 6 month contract (opportunity to become permanent)
£300 - £350 per day

A major research institution based in the heart of Central London is currently seeking an experienced commercial contracts lawyer to manage the drafting and reviewing of all commercial agreements. The organisation is relatively new, having been founded 3 years ago as a result of a collaboration by 5 leading universities including Oxbridge. A number of new Universities are scheduled to join the organisation throughout 2018, so this is a period of huge growth and change for the institution. In addition there are numerous strategic partnerships with commercial organisations, including, HSBC, Intel and Lloyds Register.

This role is a standalone position and you will work closely with the Governance Officer and Finance Director. You will be supported by external Counsel on large scale projects and contracts but will be required to take accountability for a large volume of the legal work.

The position will be varied and challenging and the remit is vast. Key duties include:

• Contract management – drafting, negotiating and review
• Drafting a suite of model contracts and clauses
• Responsibility for all basic contracts (NDA’s / Data Sharing / Grants)
• Client contract negotiation
• Proactive involvement in Bid Team
• Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

• Experienced lawyer or commercial contract manager
• Background within research / education sector would be ideal
• Experience in all aspects of commercial contracts management, especially grants and NDA’s
• Confident and able to work independently
