Reed Finance are pleased to be assisting one of Irelands leading utility providers in their recruitment of a Commercial Accountant. One of Ireland’s top 50 businesses, they have a strong reputation of success and strong employee engagement and development.

They now have a permanent and full time requirement for an experience and post-qualified Commercial/ Accountant, to assume a key role in their south Belfast premises.

Our client is seeking a highly motivated, self-sufficient and commercially focused individual who will be required to undertake full responsibility for all financial deliverables associated with a particular operating market.

Key to the success of this role is building relationships with the senior management team in addition to regular business partnering across the Group. The successful individual will support the business with their strategic objectives and decision making to deliver continued growth and strong financial performance of the domestic business.

The individual will gain exposure to contributing to various innovative projects which facilitate the growth of the business as well as the financial performance of the business. The individual will take ownership of the role and will support the senior management team in delivering business performance through analysis, insight and business partnering with key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:

Full Responsibility of Monthly & Quarterly Accounts & Reporting to include:
Monthly P&L and Balance Sheet review against budget and LBE;
Working capital & cash flow analysis;
Preparation of monthly Board reports;
Presentation of results and variances to senior management in a clear and concise fashion, highlighting areas of risk.

LBE/Business Planning Process:
Management and review of the budgetary planning, challenging assumptions and results where necessary;
Continuous LBE (Latest Best Estimate) planning in line with business performance, strategic outlook and market conditions. Working closely with key managers across the business to ensure LBE’s are timely and appropriately reflect financial forecast performance;
Communicating results and updates to key stakeholders;
Overseeing the development of existing reporting and forecasting models to meet changing business requirements.

Governance and Risk Management:
Ensuring sound financial controls are in place to actively manage risk;
Management of the risks associated with retail products offered (new and existing);
Responsible for regulatory return submissions to ensure compliance with licence and tax obligations.

Retail Strategy & Development;
Work with the Senior Management Team to evaluate and model commercial initiatives and provide insight and direction on key business decisions;
Develop the annual Five Year Business Plan in conjunction with the senior management team, providing robust challenge where appropriate;
Work with the IT teams to design and develop systems which support the strategic direction and growth of the business and ensuring that robust processes and controls are in place to protect the financial performance of the business;

In addition to these core financial activities the he individual will be expected to actively participate in special projects in particular supporting the finance & retail team transition which will require integration of new IT applications, changes in commercial arrangements and a review of appropriate management & risk reporting.

Essential Skills, experience and competencies;
Fully Qualified Accountant (with a recognised body e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with at least 3 years PQE;
Experience of managing: stakeholders, resources and projects.
Proven experience of delivering and being accountable for providing high level financial information to senior management.
Ability to prioritise and manage a varied and significant workload, while consistently delivering results.
Good working knowledge of computerised Accounts Packages and highly experienced in Excel and other MS packages.


Experience of SAP and Cognos & knowledge of the utility sector
