Headstone Manor & Museum provides a high-quality, accessible museum and archive service, offering relevant events programmes aimed at enabling Harrow residents to learn about and enjoy their local heritage. It has recently undergone a major restoration programme which has, among other things, created dedicated permanent and temporary museum exhibition spaces. Located 10 miles from the centre of London and just 13 minutes to Euston from Harrow & Wealdstone station there are great transport links via the Metropolitan Line, Watford DC Line and national rail service. It is easily accessible to the M1, M25 and A406.
We are currently recruiting a Collections & Exhibitions Officer (Curator) to join our team working 36 hours per week. The ability to hit the ground running and handle a varying workload is vital including evening, bank holiday and weekend work.
The successful post holder will ensure that the Museum Collection achieves its full potential for the new museum and is accessible as widely as possible, with the production of exhibitions that will keep audiences engaged, generating repeat visitors & secondary spend for the museum. The post is also essential in ensuring that the management and care of the museum collection and engagement with users contributes to maintaining its status as an Accredited Museum.
To be successful in this role you would need to have the below skills & experience
- Strong track record in object handling and collections care in a museum or similar environment
- The ability to be a team player and work collaboratively with other teams across the Cultural Service; this will require initiative and the ability to lead by example
- Experience of conservation techniques
- A creative approach to engagement and access for our visitors
- Collections management experience including inventory database and cataloguing
- Excellent communication skills including influencing and negotiation
