The Lothian Older People's Psychology Service (LOPPS) provides a highly specialist clinical psychology service across the NHS Lothian area to adults predominantly aged 65 and over. This is an exciting time to join our service as we seek to expand and increase access of psychological therapies and interventions to older people through recent Scottish Government funding and service re-structuring to deliver effective matched care.
This 12 month fixed term (under review) 0.5 WTE Band 7 Clinical Psychologist post will be based within the Edinburgh Behaviour Support Service (EBSS).
EBSS provides a direct clinical service to Care Homes in Edinburgh offering assessment and individualised interventions to reduce distressed behaviour in people with dementia in addition to the provision of a staff training programmes including Responding to Stress and Distress in Dementia and the Essentials in Psychological Care (Dementia) programme.
The post holder will work with and be clinically supervised by a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist EBSS Clinical Lead. EBSS is currently administratively based with the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. The team has dedicated full time mental health nursing and an Assistant Psychologist. EBSS have dedicated administrative support. The post holder will be professionally and operationally line managed through LOPPS and you will join an established supportive wider team of psychologists and therapists working with older people. You will therefore have support supervision and regular contact with other members of LOPPS who are working with similar clinical teams and will be part of a group delivering on a wider workforce training plans in responding to stress and distress in dementia in our care homes and ward settings consistent with national dementia strategy.
The post holder will work with the EBSS Clinical Psychologist Lead and other members of the EBSS MDT in the provision of a specialist psychology service to older people and those with dementia resident in Edinburgh City Care Homes their caregivers and families in in collaboration with the Sector Lead provide liaison and advice to the MDT. This post holder will provide clinical supervision and support in relation to the psychological assessment (including neuropsychological assessment if required) and therapeutic interventions provided by assistant psychologists multi disciplinary clinicians and staff within the designated clinical area and as directed by the EBSS Lead. You would be responsible for the management of a specialist caseload and appropriate allocation of caseload to other junior members of staff. There will be delegated responsibilities for providing psychology teaching training consultancy and supervision activities management within a governance structure in addition to undertaking audit and research relevant to the service area.
You must have an Honours Degree in Psychology and a Post Graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and be registered with HCPC as Applied Psychologist or be eligible for registration.
