We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist for a new post within secondary care adult mental health service in Barking & Dagenham. The post holder will be part of a well-established psychology service for people of adult age with complex and enduring Mood Anxiety and Personality (MAP) difficulties. The post holder will provide consultation, assessment and evidence based interventions (including individual and group interventions), as well as supervision and line management to qualified and unqualified psychological and non-psychological staff. This is an exciting opportunity to work in developing the Psychology provision within the Barking & Dagenham Borough and the post-holder, whilst being part of the wider community based MAP pathway team, will be embedded within the Barking and Dagenham Access and Brief Intervention (multi-disciplinary) service. The post will involve close liaison and consultation with multi-disciplinary team members. In line with the NHS Long Term Plan, with respect to improving care of service users presenting with serious mental illness, the Trust is looking to increase knowledge and skills within the MDT’s in Structured Clinical Management (SCM). The supervision of this approach would be overseen by the psychologist within this post and it would be advantageous for the applicant if they had previous experience within this. However, we would support training and development of skills both in the implementation and supervision of this approach and would encourage applicants who are interested in developing their skills and knowledge in this area to apply. We want to improve the offer of Psychological therapies to service users presenting with complex Mood Anxiety and Personality presentations within the Borough, and to develop a more seamless service with direct provision within the MDT. We also want to support and work with the MDT in developing their Brief interventions and we see this post as being integral to this development. We recognise the importance of promoting the professional development of our staff and there will be a number of opportunities to participate in continued professional development, including close supervision by senior members of the Barking & Dagenham psychology team and attending training events and courses relevant to the person's role and future professional development. The Trust has a number of clinicians with specialists skills, and within the psychological therapies there is a commitment to providing both internal CPD opportunities and the potential for attending external training where relevant. The Trust has strong links with, and provides placements for, the clinical and counselling psychology courses and several members of the department are engaged in teaching in local clinical training courses. Applicants should have: •Doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology. •Current registration as a Practitioner Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). •Experience of working in an evidence-based way with clients presenting with complex and/or severe mental health difficulties. Experience of liaising within multi-disciplinary service context. •Experience and interest in working with people with complex and severe mental health and their carers.
