Client Accountant / Bookkeeper

McGinnis Loy Associates is proud to be working with a well-known Regional Accountancy Firm who are looking for a Client Book-keeper to join their growing Client Services team in Buckinghamshire. Reporting to the Accounts Manager, the role would ideally suit an AAT Qualified Accountant (or ACA/ACCA Part-Qualified) from a small to mid-tier or well-known Regional Accountancy practice. You will be working within a large team in a business that has a diverse client base of companies up to £100m turnover across a range of sectors. Key duties include:

  • Recording the day-to-day financial transactions for clients
  • Production of corporation tax computations (CT600) with assistance from the internal Tax team
  • Dealing with any accounting queries from clients and HMRC
  • Carrying out bookkeeping and data processing using accounting systems of the client or appropriate accounting system
  • Maintaining purchase ledger, sales ledger and nominal ledgers
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Carrying out monthly reconciliations of all control accounts
  • Calculating and processing monthly journals for prepayment/ accruals/depreciation/payroll and other monthly adjustments
  • Preparing VAT returns in advance of deadlines for review and sign off
  • Completing assignments for clients, managers & supervisors to required standards
  • Preparing management account files in the required format and structure
  • Managing a portfolio to ensure work is completed to client’s timetable expectations
  • Completion and submission of timesheets within set deadlines
  • Keeping line managers informed of progress and potential problems including actual vs budget
  • Documenting work clearly and concisely, highlighting potential business opportunities to line managers

To be considered for the Client Accountant role you should be seeking a firm where wider responsibilities, personal ownership and a broader client base will be made available to you, and knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and computerised accounting packages (eg Sage and Xero) would be an advantage. With ideally 3+ years’ experience in client accounting & book-keeping, VAT returns and monthly/quarterly accounts preparation as this is the main focus of the position, you should also be able to meet client and HMRC deadlines, work within a fast-paced environment and a close-knit team.
