The Company:

  • A supplier of Bags & Sacks to an array of industries, including janitorial, food service, hotels and leisure, local authority, cash and carry to name a few. Due to year on year growth and continued success, the business is looking to recruit a Category Manager.

The Role:

  • Based in their head office in Milton Keynes the Category Manager will report to the MD of the company. Managing a portfolio of categories, products and suppliers to maximise profit from established and developing categories. The continued growth of the business is dependent on the category manager contributing to this growth by working closely with the Commercial Director and General Office Manager to ensure product launches, stock availability and supplier engagement maintains the company’s exceptional service level.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Sourcing for existing and new categories from local and overseas suppliers
  • Analysis by category to ensure the range is market competitive, fit for purpose and provides the correct customer solution
  • Cost price negotiation with suppliers and maintenance of the company’s master cost price file
  • Monitoring market trends and changes that will create opportunity for new product specifications and new category opportunities
  • Communication and consideration of the company’s competitor activity to recommend changes to the company’s 'offer’
  • Product specification creation and management through the internal QA process
  • Liaison with suppliers and stock control to ensure production capacity availability to meet the demands of the company’s customers
  • Visits to factories with customers or independently to assess suitability to continue or become a supplier to company’s
  • Supplier relationship management
  • Working with the sales and marketing team to meet new product launch dates
  • Day to day quotes for sales staff of bespoke and new business requirements
  • Accountable for new product development with factories and independently to continually bring innovation and new products to market


Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of the Away from Home Market
  • Experienced technically in the core product categories of the company
  • Project Management of product launches and category reviews
  • Purchasing experience gained in a similar business (importer)
  • Understanding of production processes
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Efficient
  • Organised

  • Has vision and foresight
  • Flexible work ethos to meet the needs of the department
  • Ability to act on own initiative and meet deadlines
  • Computer literate

Salary:

  • Circa £42,000
