A well-known national retail chain, part of a major group, is currently going through a business transformation. As a result they are now seeking a Category Manager to spearhead a number of commercial strategies for one of their key categories at a time when the business is open the introduction of a wide range of new initiatives.

Reporting to the Trading Director, you will manage the core category functions of product ranging, sourcing, availability and cost price management for the food team. This will mean conducting regular range reviews of your categories, mapping customers’ needs to the range and doing gap analysis. You will monitor supplier performances and conduct tenders for re-sourcing as required. You will also be responsible for managing the company's relationship with suppliers and manufacturers, covering all aspects such as ranging, content enhancement, buying experience onsite and, where relevant, supplier funding.

To apply, it is likely you will currently be in a similar commercial buying role with a major retail multiple, you will have extensive category management or buying experience, ideally from another retail multiple and be experienced in promotional planning and have delivered consistently against revenue and margin targets. A good communicator with good analytical ability you will possess a real flair for developing category strategy within the key fmcg markets.
