38 Hardthorn Road is a Young Person’s Residential House and is seeking to recruit 4 Social Care Workers to support and work alongside the present staff teams to provide a high standard of care to young people between the ages of 8 and 18 years within a residential environment. The Social Care Worker will ensure overall care activities as determined by policies and procedures and ensuring the highest level of Child Care Practice and using appropriate methods and techniques of Social Work intervention to meet the needs of young people.
We are seeking casual workers to work as and when required. Priority will be given to candidates who can work at very short notice and particularly between the hours of 1930-0730.
You should preferably hold the minimum qualifications to meet the needs of the Scottish Social Services Council (SVQ3 and HNC in Social Care (or equivalent HNC) or obtain these within 3 years to fulfil Registration requirements.
Applicants must also have a minimum of one year’s experience of working with young people in a variety of settings and this may also include voluntary work. Experience of working with young people in a residential setting and experience of working with families and carers is desirable.
Successful candidates will be highly motivated, resilient, have drive and enthusiasm, patience, commitment and willingness to share their positive life experiences, instilling confidence and self-belief in young people while allowing them to be themselves. The ability to communicate effectively with all significant persons involved in the young person’s life is essential to this post.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
Salary placing is dependent on experience and qualifications.
