We provide prevention, protection and response services across the counties of Devon and Somerset. Our vision is that together, we will work to end preventable fire and rescue emergencies, creating a safer world for you and your family. About the role
Successful candidates will need to be available to attend a training and induction course at Service Headquarters followed by a period of shadowing.
The Community Safety (CS) Prevention team are looking to recruit, enthusiastic, motivated, disciplined, energetic and trustworthy individuals to join their Community Safety Advocate Team and contribute to the wider CS agenda.
The primary focus for Casual Community Safety Advocates will be to deliver targeted prevention activities and community engagement; across our service area on an ad hoc basis depending on Service needs. Community Safety Advocates will be managed by the CS team.
Prevention is a primary focus in the Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) and we recognise that risk reduction begins with safe behaviours at home, at work, or on the road, and this leads to a safer society for all.
Community Risk Team
Prevention initiatives are aimed at customers in our community who could benefit from advice and education through prevention campaigns; and on a one to one basis to support them in reducing the risk in the home and communities.
Delivery of risk reduction initiatives and campaigns identified within the Prevention Plan - for example water safety, seasonal safety campaigns, rural safety etc.
Road Safety Team
Our key approach for delivery is through education and intervention activities designed to raise awareness of the specific risks and to encourage road users to consider the consequences of their actions.
Education delivery provides a framework for engaging actively with children and young people to educate them and their families in fire safety skills, responsible citizenship and building on the core values of the Service.
Home Safety & Partnerships Team
A community safety advocate whilst engaging within the local community will also be responsible for the generation of Home Safety referrals from our target demographic. The role will involve identifying potential new partnerships and working with diverse communities to ensure equality of access to our community safety services.
A Home Safety Visit is a FREE service we offer to people who live in Devon and Somerset. We visit people in their homes at a convenient time to see what we can do to make them safer.
Working as part of the CS team, in this role you will be asked to work at various locations throughout the Service area.
Please note that an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this post.
