The Capital Project Manager will be a key position in a new and aspirational estates team. This role will form the means of improving our schools by delivering a wide programme of capital work ranging from property and infrastructure maintenance to internal fitouts and demolition.
Reporting to the Head of Estates you will be responsible for the development execution of our capital programme from inception to completion. You will be responsible for managing communications and information relating to the programme, ensuring all projects are properly developed and understood, and that disruption to our schools is minimised
Core duties & accountabilities
*Developing briefs, objectives, specifications, and client documentation to develop and administer capital projects.
*Undertaking feasibility studies, cost assessments and developing business cases to enable project and programme decision making.
*Manage the tender process for appointments of consultants and client-led work. Support external project managers to implement contracts for project specific appointments.
*Manage project activities and progress on behalf of the trust, focussing on stakeholder impact, risk mitigation and financial monitoring.
*Manage requirements for information and engagement including trust governance and reporting structures. Report on cost, progress, and quality. Manage the transfer of information after completion to ensure an efficient estates service.
*Represent the estate team to develop and deliver the capital programme, forming relationships with key stakeholders to inform, influence and secure support. Use these relationships to understand project impact and develop mitigations.
*Manage project risk and escalate where necessary.
*Manage contractor and consultant progress, resolving performance issues.
*Ensure compliance with relevant statutory duties and trust policies and guidance.
*Assist with the delivery of a resourcing and investment plan for the estate
*Proven experience of capital programme delivery of over £1m per year with an excellent understanding of project management, ideally in a client facing role.
*Excellent technical knowledge of the built environment and the ability to communicate with specialists on complex projects.
*Experience of developing project briefs, budgets and programmes and monitoring to these standards.
*Experience of contract management and procurement of specialists
*A proven track record of managing internal stakeholders and building effective relationships
*Understanding of managing project information, presenting technical requirements, and communicating complex needs to a range of stakeholders
*A working knowledge of relevant health and safety processes and understanding of CDM regulations.
*Highly collaborative working style with a history of creativity to solve difficult issues
*The ability to challenge and review proposals, manage change and lead on finding solutions
*Competent with standard ICT applications.
