Experienced Engineering Buyer required for our client based in Glasgow.

This is a permanent position with an established organisation. Applicants who have gained experience working for a heavy engineering manufacturer preferred.

The Role
The successful applicant will be responsible for the supply of goods and services, negotiating price whilst ensuring quality and delivery standards are achieved.


Supplier identification and selection for the purchase of parts or services achieving lowest cost without comprising delivery and quality for systems components.
Responsible for the RFQ process for parts for contracts compliant with the preferred and approved supplier list
Lead contract negotiations with suppliers on all aspects (cost, warranty, payment terms,)
Initiate and propose the supplier selection for contracts
Pro-actively strive on time placement of PO's in line with project schedules of contracts
Support the Proposals/Sales department during bidding stage.
Working with the Global Category Manager, develop and execute the sourcing
Optimise the performance of the key suppliers in dimensions including cost reduction, supplier delivery and quality performance, risk mitigation, commodity economics, working capital improvement, and contract compliance.
Serve as the 'relationship owner' for key suppliers.
Ensure compliance with company financial audit and record procedures.
Resolve supply chain delivery issues by maintaining effective lines of communication with suppliers.
Participate in cost reduction projects and achieve savings targets by continually reviewing costs with suppliers
Communicate with suppliers on quality problems in conjunction with the Quality Department and coordinate improvement projects with these suppliers
Support Lean principles by optimising efficiencies through reduction of costs & improvement of quality and delivery.
Ensure adherence to health and safety standards in compliance with company policy to ensure safe working environment
Responsible for liaising with Global Category Management organisation and providing key business requirements, data and feedback in the supplier selection process
Develop and implement component supply base for is the right-fit through consolidation and rationalisation of the number of suppliers
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key partners and suppliers

Skills and Experience
Degree in business administration, logistics, engineering finance or related discipline preferred
Relevant experience in sourcing
Experience in negotiating supplier agreements
Good team player
Strong inter-personal skills
Pragmatic, no-nonsense approach
Good communication skills, written and verbal
Ability to multi-task and prioritise work
Competent in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Project & Power Point

Mainly based on site however will have some call for domestic and international travel.
