Department: Procurement

Location: Gillingham (with limited travel to other locations)

Role Purpose

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing established production parts, vendor monitoring and control and continual cost reduction within standard costs and departmental budget.

Who you’ll report to

Procurement Supervisor

What you’ll be doing:

  • Raising orders for materials & services efficiently

  • Expediting deliveries to ensure continuity of supply

  • Liaising with suppliers and monitoring their performance on delivery & quality

  • Building close relationships with internal stakeholders

  • Promoting & abiding by best procurement practices

  • Supporting the Procurement Manager and Procurement Supervisor with projects & cost down activities

  • Support management of inventory and stock levels to meet customer requirements

  • Reconcile invoice/Purchase Order differences with accounts dept and supplier.

  • Undertake additional duties that may be required by the organisation

Person Specification

We are looking for individuals who are highly motivated and have a passion to contribute to the success of Hochiki. In addition to this, you will possess the following:


  • Desirable: Desire to undertake CIPS qualification


  • Essential: Experience in working in a manufacturing environment

  • Desirable: Experience of working in purchasing or procurement function


  • Desirable: Knowledge of production components sourcing

    Technical skills

  • Essential: Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook with the ability to learn bespoke systems and programmes

  • Desirable: Experience of using an MRP system

    Personal qualities

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong organisational skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to perform well under pressure, achieve goals and meet deadlines

  • A good team player able to work with minimum supervision.
