Our client is looking to recruit a Buyer with experience in the building maintenance and refurbishment industry to join their successful and expanding contractor business in North Hampshire. They have a diverse client base and specialise in restoration works, maintenance, refurbishments and high-end painting & decorating. Your main responsibility is to ensure that all materials needed for projects are sourced and provided to schedule and within budget, ensuring the profitability of contracts. In addition to this, you will also be responsible for managing the fleet vehicles and office supplier contracts.
Ideally you will be based in their office in Fleet, although it could be possible for you to work from their office in SW London. This role will involve some travel to sites which are mainly based in London and surrounding areas.
Job role and responsibilities
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Buyer will:
Negotiate prices and rates for all materials, ensuring they are delivered to site to schedule.
Identify potential suppliers and new products.
Control of all plant hire.
Account management for other company purchases such as stationery and communications.
Liaise with suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotes and agree delivery times.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment requirements of materials and services.
Provide information needed for tendering and estimating purposes to ensure an accurate project cost is provided.
Prepare and maintain cost reports in order to maximise efficiency within the business.
Manage the Fleet Vehicle contracts, overseeing the day to day operations for the vehicle insurance and inspecting vehicles and booking services.
Review office supplier contracts and manage the budget, this includes IT and telecoms
What skills/experience will you need?
For this role you will need to have experience in a similar role, our client will consider someone who has been working as an Assistant Buyer and is looking for the next step. You will need to have experience as a buyer within the building, refurbishment or construction industry. As this role will include site visits, you must be happy to travel within London and surrounding areas (either by train or car). You will need to be confident negotiating with suppliers, have excellent communications skills and an aptitude for figures. As you will be assisting with a number of ongoing projects at any one time, you must be organised. You must have the ability to build good working relationships both internally and externally of the company
You will need strong IT skills (including excel), bespoke system training will be provided.
In addition to the salary (around £30-40k- negotiable depending upon experience) you will receive a pension, generous holiday allowance, private healthcare and there is a discretionary bonus paid quarterly. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone to join a very successful family business.
