Shape new ways of working in our Home to School Transport service

Hampshire County Council's Children's Services Department is seeking to recruit a manager to lead a Business Support Team of at least 3 other staff. The successful candidate will shape new ways of working as part of a newly created structure that is a step along the way to transforming the Home to School Transport service that provides transport services for over 12,000 children and young adults every day. Home to School Transport sits in the Department's Access, Resources and Business Development Branch.

The postholder will report to the Department's Head of Admissions and Transport. An annual budget of £32m ensures the transport services that support children attending over 400 educational settings each day. Children attend both mainstream and specialist provision and transport services range from taxis for lone travellers through specialist vehicles to support children needing to travel in wheelchairs, to double deck buses for larger numbers of travellers.

We contract with approximately 200 transport operators. The Transport Team commissions safe and cost-efficient services that meet the requirements of statutory guidance. The service works closely with the Department's Special Educational Needs, Social Care, School Admissions and Inclusion Teams.

The Transport Service has been part of a major Transformational Programme, the Team's restructure is part of that work. The Business Support Team will provide support to two transport planning teams. The manager will help identify and implement the best possible business processes that permit and encourage recording of financial and activity data leading to management and financial reporting that informs senior managers overseeing this critical area of significant spend.

The postholder will work with two other new managers, and the Head of Service, to achieve this. The post will be a challenging, varied and rewarding workload as you provide leadership in a team that is enthusiastic and passionate about the service it provides for Hampshire's children and families and their schools.
