BUSINESS INFORMATION ANALYST

Purpose of role: A key role within the Beacon UK team, the Business Information Analyst (BIA) will play a key role in supporting and delivering an effective and high quality information service in order to facilitate planning and strategic decision making in Beacon UK's managed mental healthcare model for the Forward Thinking Birmingham (FTB) partnership.

The BIA undertakes data preparation, data quality, presentation of reports, analysis/modelling/forecasting, and the interpretation of data to support strategic planning and service transformation. They provide business data domain expertise, supporting the delivery of business intelligence and management information for the FTB partnership, implementing and developing local systems and processes for delivering information. They interpret the business requirements for FTB translating those specifications for delivery. As part of the development life cycle the BIA manages user requirements and supports the system testing and user acceptance testing with internal and external customers.

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Supporting the monthly cycle of management and operational reporting providing analysis at service and pathway levels by producing and distributing quality and timely regular reports from multiple information systems as required to meet the needs of the service and in response to ad-hoc requests
  • Providing bespoke support around patient data sets enabling operational teams to understand data about patients or groups of patients.
  • Undertaking analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data and information to support planning and decision making
  • Extraction of data sets from a number of sources, identifying the data required and developing the extraction algorithms
  • Developing new dashboards within the BI tool (Tableau) to meet changing customer demands
  • Supporting the Performance Information Manager on on-going work streams that address key analytical and information needs of Beacon UK, taking the lead on project development work as requested
  • Providing advice and support to resolving information and analytics related issues
  • Identifying opportunities to business processes or local information systems to improve service, deliver efficiencies and meet new guidelines
  • Implementing standard analytical tools including benchmarking, confidence intervals, statistical process control, demand forecasting, trend analysis and visualisation techniques
  • Liaising across the partnership to understand stakeholder's requirements, promote good working relationships and identify/implement process efficiencies

Person Specification

Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a numerical subject, or equivalent experience working in a specialist area

Experience in an information management role or data analysis role working with large datasets and delivering operational support

Experience of data management, analysis and interpretation and clear and demonstrable experience

Advanced MS Excel skills including spreadsheet design and development, pivot tables and complex formulae

Microsoft Stuctured Query Skills (Microsoft SQL and MySQL) including development of complex queries

Highly proficient in MS Access, Word & PowerPoint

Advanced analytical skills with demonstrated ability to develop and produce meaningful Business Intelligence reports

Ability to present complex information in a non- technical way to a wide range of audiences both verbally and electronically

As large datasets are analysed, excellent attention to detail is essential

Desirable

Experience of BI Tools (especially Tableau) and use of database extraction tools to develop complex queries (especially Microsoft SQL and My SQL)

Experience working with health care data sets
