Job title: Business Development Partner

Reporting to: Director of Centre for Industry Engagement with a dotted line to the Deputy Vice-Principal (Academic Affairs)

Post: Two years fixed term

Salary: up to £45k depending on experience

Job purpose:

To play an active role in the delivery of an Office for Students and Research England funded project on student engagement in knowledge exchange: Work Integrated Learning: Sustainable models for student-industry engagement. The project would entail strengthening and growing the College’s current employer partnerships to facilitate the expansion of knowledge exchange and work-integrated learning opportunities for students. It would also involve engaging employers in researching effective models for student-industry engagement and co-designing a framework for work-integrated learning.

Main duties and responsibilities:

o Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting customer relationships that ensure retention and, where possible, continued growth in knowledge exchange with employers;

o Brokering employer participation in the evaluation of existing College models for knowledge exchange with students and in the evaluation of new models of work-integrated learning;

o Exploring and opening up new opportunities for student-industry engagement with existing and with new employers to support the objectives of the project;

o Supporting and identifying new and additional work-integrated learning opportunities;

o Working with the Work Integrated Learning team and Academic teams to monitor satisfaction with existing clients to ensure service delivery on contracts while helping employers reach their goals and ensuring a continued, positive, and profitable relationship;

o Taking direction from the Deputy Vice-Principal (Academic Affairs) in delivering on the project’s objectives;

o Maintaining currency and developing expertise in the trends and funding arrangements for degree apprenticeships and identifying opportunities for Pearson and its employer contacts to optimise their contribution to the Apprenticeship Levy;

o Working with internal stakeholders on activities such as the provision of internships, business workshops, industry events, guest speakers, mentors, research collaboration activities, course development input, employer training and events etc.

o Contributing to the response to suitable tender opportunities;

o Where appropriate, using existing contacts as future pipeline;

o Liaison with other parts of Pearson and external training providers where necessary, to fully leverage opportunities with their existing partners to support the objectives of the project;

o Complying with all regulations regarding higher education programmes and Degree Apprenticeships;

o Undertaking any other duties as directed by the Director of the Centre for Industry Engagement or the Deputy Vice-Principal (Academic Affairs).

Qualifications and experience:

? A Bachelor’s degree;

? B2B account management, ideally, in higher education;

? Proven track record of generating new business from existing partnerships and achieving revenue growth;

? Experience of dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders in the context of HE business development;

? Demonstrated ability to deliver on project milestones;

? Demonstrated ability to work with a range of stakeholders to deliver a project.

? Experience bridging academia and industry;


? Demonstrated good knowledge of one or more of the project’s main areas, i.e. work-integrated learning, knowledge exchange, university – industry engagement, student employability, widening participation, degree apprenticeships;

? B2B Account management and sales expertise in Apprenticeships plus knowledge and expertise relating to the provision of degree apprenticeships in the UK, and apprenticeship programmes more widely;

? Experience of working on publicly funded projects;

? Knowledge/experience of identifying opportunities to generate income streams for the College; e.g. via Government funding applications.


? Ability to work in a dynamic environment in a flexible manner

? Ability to organise own workload and adhere to deadlines

? Excellent oral, written, and communication skills

? Ability to work effectively in a small and agile team

? Ability to devise innovative solutions

? Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including colleagues, students, employers

? Understanding of the wider HE landscape

? A high level of administrative expertise and proficiency in data management

? Ideally, working knowledge of using Salesforce as a CRM tool.
