Role Purpose

The Business Analyst (BA) will be responsible for gathering and understanding business requirements on a range of projects and change initiatives.

Reporting into the Senior Business Analyst, the BA will work across the organisation alongside Project Managers, Development and Change Management, liaising with senior stakeholders to deliver requirement documents, perform process mapping, conduct feasibility studies, change impact assessments, designs/models and support the delivery of the Idea to Implementation journey.

Role-specific experience and skills

Essential:

  • Degree educated or significant relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of delivering business analysis
  • Experience of business analysis, in a technology project, ideally transformation as well as a compliance programme
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations
  • Familiarity with project management approaches, tools and phases of the project lifecycle
  • Able to work effectively at all levels within the organisation
  • The ability to analyse issues, develop solutions and influence key decisions, balancing risk with results

Key accountabilities

Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, business process descriptions, use cases, user stories, data flow diagrams

  • Undertake requirements management, including requirements traceability
  • Develop Demand Assessment document leading to Business case with clear and traceable Analysis of Alternative (AOA)
  • Business process mapping
  • Translate requirements into functional and non-functional; evaluate information gathered from sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
  • Analyse and document process/work flows, business rules and results of business analysis and obtain sign-off from stakeholders on the specifications
  • Developing business and operational processes across multiple departments
  • Engage in multiple initiatives working with Project and Change Managers to provide the link between requirements and delivery plans
  • Develop sound professional working relationships across the business and across all levels of the organisation
  • Work independently with users to define concepts under the direction of the Senior Business Analyst

  • High competency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite tools
  • Knowledge of JIRA
  • Working knowledge of some or all the following improvement tools and techniques: BCS, LEAN, Prince 2 and/Agile
  • Industry experience in civils and telecommunications or utilities (desirable)
