Business Analyst

Job Outline

As a Senior Business Analyst you will provide a partnering service to senior business stakeholders to assist with all aspects of change and transformation. You will provide analysis and elicitation skills that will help shape the business future state, and then identify and carry forward change interventions that will enable the future state, either through pure business improvement activity, or technology implementation.

The Senior Business Analyst is expected to work through the full lifecycle of both business and technology projects.

Responsibility at each phase of the project will include:


  • Help to define and communicate a shared understanding of the business vision, strategy, and the roadmap to a future state
  • Validate business 'concepts’ / 'project ideas’ by ensuring desired outcomes and benefits are well articulated
  • Build strong relationships with IT to ensure there is a common understanding of the business vision and the technology roadmap to achieve it
  • Produce viable options for delivery of 'project concepts’ with an impact assessment including potential technology solutions, cost, benefit tracking proposal, ROI, impact to people and organisation, impact on culture, business acceptance criteria, resource model, risks

Responsible for the BA plan both build and tracking working closely with the Project Manager and other BAs on the programme / Project


  • Work closely with IT resource and business stakeholders to produce a feasibility study for the project covering technical, economic (cost benefit analysis), legal, operational, financial, schedule, resourcing, organisation, people and cultural feasibility
  • Provide support and input to the Business Case

Requirements & Design

  • Produce a business requirements document/product backlog (dependent on delivery methodology) and achieve agreement and sign-off. Own full end to end Traceability of requirements through to test preparation, test execution and business sign off, and ensure requirements are fully testable
  • Produce as-is/to-be process models. Responsible for interpreting the business requirements to the Solution Design and IT deliverables working closely the business and IT partners
  • Ensure IT resource have a shared and complete understanding of the business requirements. Review technical artefacts e.g. solution design documents, technical specs, data models
  • Produce a Quality & Business Assurance Plan to ensure the business sponsor has acceptance criteria and activities to assure the project throughout the lifecycle and at final delivery
  • Work with business stakeholders to product a cultural change plan to identify changes required to people, structure, roles, ways of working
  • Work with business stakeholders to produce the business readiness approach to identify key business activities required to be ready for implementation
  • Work with business stakeholders to produce a post-deployment change adoption plan to ensure the required change is bedded in

Build and accept/test

  • Assist in execution of business readiness and cultural change plans
  • Monitor change progress, e.g. of business process improvements and recommend change interventions if necessary
  • Ensure delivered technology meets quality plan criteria
  • Coordinate user acceptance test and manage defect triage
  • Assist in execution of training/knowledge management plans


  • Assist in execution of early life support plans
  • Provide onsite support, e.g. desk walking
  • Coordinate benefit tracking plans
  • Collate performance measurements
  • Assist in execution of post-deployment change adoption plans
  • Take part in post-implementation reviews

Benefit Realisation

  • Carry forward lessons learnt as appropriate
  • Continue to report on benefit realisation measures
  • Assist business stakeholders in managing continuous improvement

Essential Criteria - must be clearly demonstrated on CV

  • In depth experience working as a Business Analyst for a large insurance company.
  • Organisational capability analysis
  • Proven cultural change analysis experience
  • Business case preparation including ROI and cost benefit analysis
  • Benefits realization tracking
  • Planning and coordinating user and operational assurance
  • Requirements elicitation and documentation using User Stories or Use Cases
  • Identifying and mapping value streams
  • As-is and to-be process mapping (Level 1 to Level 5) using BPMN
  • Experience of IT project delivery through internal/offshore and third party supplier models
  • Working in complex IT architectures e.g. front office, back office, rating engines, document


  • Underwriting or broking experience
  • Personal and commercial insurance knowledge (tradesman, landlords, equine, marine, travel, taxi etc.)
  • Insurance aggregator experience
  • Understanding of market leading product solutions
  • Business process auditing (using Lean thinking or Six Sigma)
